AMC Consolidated History

AMC Consolidated

AMC Consolidated AMC Consolidated was purchased by IBS, Inc. in 1990. This mission was then established, “We work for you.” AMC Consolidated’s goal of high level of service at a reasonable price was set in place. The 1990’s brought about some changes for AMC Consolidated. The company began to look at how the company could reduce waste and increase recycling. These changes fit the mission protecting the environment and expanding their product line allowed for the customer to meet their needs at one location for wood products.

Roll-Off Trash Removal

The company added Roll-Off trash removal services. This fleet of trucks contains open top containers, over the road tractors, 48’ flat bed trailers, and 53’ dry vans. This allowed for our company to handle most materials from construction, landscaped, cardboard, paper, plastic etc. This increased our ability to encourage recycling and assist our customers with that need. This allowed for us to meet our second goal of recycling our products and giving our customers the option to recycle at a reasonable cost.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

We began to recycle our wood products for use as landscaping mulch, playground covering, and trail covering. The allowed for us to continue to work for our customers they could obtain their wood shavings and mulch products at our location. This allowed us to meet our second goal of eliminating waste and reusing our products. This mulch is known throughout the Phoenix valley.

Playground Covering

We have our products in development and school playgrounds, as well as numerous homes.

Horse and Arena Bedding

AMC Consolidated began creating and mixing our arena/horse bedding from new wood that was at the pallet yard. This allowed for us to expand our product line and increase our customer satisfaction with our variety of products. The bedding is found in many local boarding and arenas. This continued to allow us to work for our customers.

The new millennium brought about new opportunities with Peco Pallet. This increased our ability to work with our customers and increase our customer base. We began heat-treating pallets to meet international regulations. We currently have the only kiln in the Phoenix area for the sterilization meeting the IPPC international standard. We received minority owned business status. Pallets are our passion and we continue to provide quality pallets to our customers around the Phoenix area, U.S. and internationally.

We continue to find ways to ensure that our pallets meet the current guidelines, standards, and customer stratification. Our customers have provided us with the ability to continue to increase our product line and services. They continue to provide feedback and information that allows us to continue to improve our company and meet our mission, “we work for you our customers.” We would like to say thank you to our customers for making  AMC Consolidated a great company without your continued support we would still be only pallets. Please feel free to contact AMC Consolidated for further details.

Recycling

    recycling

Green living has been a hot topic for over a decade now. Many companies and individuals have started thinking more about what they buy with regards to packaging, recycled materials used, and companies that support recycling. Some interesting facts about the every day products we use:

  • 80,000,000 Hershey’ Kisses are wrapped each day enough to cover 40 football fields
  • 1 quart of oil can contaminated 2,000,000 gallons of fresh water
  • A typical family uses 182 gallons of soda, 29 gallons of juice, 104 gallons of milk, and 26 gallons of bottled water per year
  • Motor Oil never wears out it just gets dirty

AMC Consolidated developed their company with the principle of recycling and reducing waste. This offers a better use of our products, employees’ time, cost savings, and the environment over all.  The amount of waste produced affects the planets soil, fresh and salt water, and the air.  It is important that we work together to do what we can when it comes to recycling. Many products can be taken to recycling centers in your area. Paper recycling can be done in Phoenix at International Paper. They have four locations in the Phoenix area for paper recycling. Metal recycling can be handled at Metal Management of Arizona.

Reducing, reusing, and recycling provides:

  • Protection
  • Expands jobs
  • Saves Energy
  • Conserves Natural Resources
  • Decreases pollution
  • Reduces Cost

There are many products that cannot be recycled with our recycled trash and need to be taken to a specific center hazardous waste center. At these centers they can handle items like batteries, electronics, paint, light bulbs, fluorescent, adhesives, motor oil etc. Please check your local waste management company for a listing of household hazardous waste.

For further information regarding recycling or local centers see your local waste management company. In the Phoenix area you can contact AMC Consolidated or Phoenix Public works for further details.

Mulch for Your Ground Covering

playground mulch

Mulch is a protective covering that allows for vibrant finished appearance, and imitates the ground covering found in a forest. Mulch is one of the most beneficial materials you can do to your soil and plants.  Besides the items above mulch provides the following:

  • Seed germination reduction
  • Soil temperature regulation
  • Assists with reduction of weeds
  • Provides fertilize
  • Encourages growth of beneficial soil organisms  such as worms their feces is one of the best fertilizers, soil conditioners, and they till the soul
  • Keeps soil off plants especially during rain preventing crusting on plants
  • Increases water absorption
  • Improves soil nutrients and structure for plants
  • Beautifies trails, playgrounds, and gardens with contrasting coloration
  • Decomposing bark mulch does not use soil nitrates

Bark mulch once in place will last for years and is inexpensive with high benefits. When installing the bark it is best to layer two to three inches thick. Each season that mulch is applied will provide different benefits. Winter/early spring it will act as a slow insulator. Mid-summer will help maintain the highest soil temps into late fall. The best time to apply bark mulch is late spring or early summer. This provides best results because soil temperature is high and plants are well established after winter or planting.  The will provide the best coverage and provide the best benefits for your garden.

Heat Treating and Kilning Dry Pallets

Kiln Processing Wood Pallets

The International Plant Protection Convention oversees the introduction, spread, and prevention of non-native plants, pest, and plant products. This organization created a raw wood packaging requirement for international shipment of products. One regulation developed is ISMP 15 international shipment of wood packaging material.

This regulation protects the spread and introduction of pest internationally. The difficulty of tracing the wood product because of recycling, re-used, or re-manufactured make it difficult to ensure the product is clear of all pests.

All pallets or skids must be phytosanitized to reduce the risk of introduction and/or spread of quarantine pests that can travel on wood pallets/skids. This process includes heat-treating all dry wood pallets for international use. This process eliminated bag bleed, mold, and insect infestation. Heat/Kiln treating are environmentally friendly treatments and makes the pallets lighter and stronger. When heat-treating the minimum requirement is:

  • Minimum wood core temperature 560C
  • Pallet or Skid must be heat 30 minutes
  • Kiln Drying is an acceptable way to heat-treat
  • Methyl Bromide should be less than 100 C
  • Exposure for Methyl Bromide treatment can be no less than 24 Hours

All wood pallets or skids treated for international shipment must be stamped with a specific symbol to represent the treatment of wood.

Treating the wood pallets or skids eliminates the following insects and pest groups:

  • Anobiidae
  • Bostrichidae
  • Buprestidae
  • Cerambycidae
  • Curculionidae
  • Isoptera
  • Lyctidae
  • Oedemeridae
  • Scolytidae
  • Siricidae
  • Bursaphelenchus Xylophilus

The following organization requires heat-treating and kilning dry pallets, European Union (EU), American Lumber Standard Committee (ALSC), and National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA).

Heat Treatment PalletsWhen purchasing or receiving your pallets internationally look for the stamp that ensures your pallets meet the ISMP 15 requirements for treating pests and any certifications from organizations like, ALSC to ensure you are meeting all standards. To keep costs low and ensure pallets are meeting standards ask the pallet company if they are treating their pallets on site.

Please feel free to contact us regarding any questions or further information you may have about your international pallets and ISMP 15.
